PULMONARY FIBROSIS - "Pulmonologists" CD (2022)

France's ever-prolific gorehounds PULMONARY FIBROSIS are back with another sloshing, slashing and totally septic full length!

After 25 years of dogged dedication to the nastiest, roughest and - let's be honest - most downtrodden and uncared-for shit around, GOREGRIND, these sickos have managed to come up with what's their best material yet. 17 rounds of brutish, heavy-handed, nauseating punishment that's rooted in the oft-ripped-off but rarely done right vein of early 2000s LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY, HEMDALE, REGURGITATE and MORTICIAN. If you're familiar with P.F., especially the last 8-10 or so years of their material, you'll know what to expect - relentless blasting (love how Guillaume doesn't chuck a fill in every other measure and just blasts straight through), ultra low-tuned guitars belting out crusty chord carnage riffing, fizzy Will Rahmer bass and gut-churning shifted vox. Not only have they fine-tuned their songwriting so that they're as lean and mean as they've ever been, the mix on this record can't be described as being anything other than burly, brawny and meaty as hell, while thankfully retaining plenty of clarity. Given their output over the years has wavered in quality, it is impressive that after so long, the band has one-upped themselves and put on their best performance to date. This is one of those records that probably won't bring anyone over to the other side if they aren't already a die-hard, and doesn't bring anything new or unexpected to the genre, but their undying passion for dense, churning, punishing goregrind is clear and has resulted in an album that most fans of the genre should readily devour, myself included. 7 and a half bloated cadavers/10.
