Terrible Mutilation is an Australian grindcore/metal distro, label and webzine, with varying parts of it going back to the late 2000s. This webzine's origins date back to 2009, originally starting as a would-be print zine which never materialised due to being broke, stupid and lazy for years at a time, so everything written from 2009-2016 never saw the light of day until now (March 2024). Reviews cover a range of likes and sometimes dislikes - this e-rag is just a place for me rant about whatever is in my ears at any given time.
Since March 2024 onward, reviewed titles get a rating out of 10 at the end of them. Some context (totally not biased by own tastes):
- 1-4: a sliding scale of totally worthless to "strictly collectors only", but mostly avoid at all costs.
- 5+: Average. Passable. Maybe a couple of good songs, but mostly forgettable.
- 6+: Decent. Good understanding of the genre/s and how it works. Worth a few listens every now and then, but not a stand-out.
- 7+: Very good. A probable buy on vinyl, not just CD or tape.
- 8+: Excellent. The full package. What you want to hear in just about every respect, but not quite a classic.
- 9+: A dead-set modern benchmark that outclasses every other band attempting something even remotely similar at release. E.g. DEAD CONGREGATION, INTERNAL ROT, MIASMATIC NECROSIS or the first NEGATIVE PLANE record.
- 10: Unbeatable, and just about impossible for anyone to reach past the year 2005. TBA.
